Environmentalists Josh (Jesse Eisenberg) and Dena (Dakota Fanning) take a trip to buy a boat. They wear baseball caps and pay in cash. Later, they meet up with Harmon (Peter Sarsgaard) at his rural property. He has their fake IDs but explains that in order to blow up the dam, they’ll need more fertilizer. Kelly Reichardt’s Night Moves (2013) is a captivating, meticulously paced thriller, provocative in its restraint.
Reflecting on her film pick for Galerie, curator Ari Wegner shares, “In Night Moves Reichardt takes a perhaps familiar Hollywood narrative—three people planning and executing a serious crime—without any of the clichés we know, all while shaping a film with almost unbearable tension.”
Following a live screening, cinematographer Christopher Blauvelt returns to Galerie to answer questions and share anecdotes from his second collaboration with Reichardt.
