DEAD RINGERS
Hosted by critics Manuela Lazić & Adam Nayman
Body horror, sexual perversion, obsession, fetishism, mutation, technology: The gruesomely innovative characteristics of David Cronenberg’s storytelling have resulted in some of the most impactful forays into the horror genre.
With 1988’s Dead Ringers, Cronenberg incorporated his twisted signatures to illuminate a chilling and unforgettable character study. Elliot and Beverly Mantle (both played by Jeremy Irons in top form) are identical twins who share a successful gynecology practice. Where Elliot is extroverted and cunning, Beverly is shy and reserved. When Elliot grows tired of the patients he callously seduces, he encourages Beverly to step in for him. But this sociopathic symmetry begins to fray with the arrival of Claire Niveau (Geneviève Bujold), an alluring actress struggling with infertility, plunging the twins into a psychosexual duel of increasingly disturbing proportions.
Join critics Manuela Lazić and Adam Nayman for a watch-party plunge into this deeply unsettling and magnetic world of desire, delusion and tangled identity.
