ARCHIVED DISCUSSION

TUESDAY | MAY 7 | 12PM PT

The question is usually not “Have you seen Paris, Texas?" but “How many times have you seen Paris, Texas?”

A ragged wanderer (Harry Dean Stanton) roams the West Texas desert with nothing but an empty water jug. When he collapses from dehydration at a remote convenience store, his brother arrives from Los Angeles to retrieve him, returning the seemingly mute Travis to his young son and memories of the life and love he left behind four years prior.

Co-written by Sam Shepard, Wim Wenders’s Paris, Texas is an unforgettable journey through a man’s alienation and reckoning with grief, resounding in soulful performances (including a breathtaking Nastassja Kinski as Travis's estranged wife Jane), rich colors and the wide-open landscapes of the American Southwest.

Join Josh Siegel, film curator at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, for a chat on all that continues to resonate about this enduring treasure.
