Movie of the Week: BURNING
LIVE DISCUSSION
FRIDAY | JULY 11 | 1PM PT
Welcome to Movie of the Week! Each week we’ll spotlight a film that deserves a closer look. You can stream it at your own pace over the course of the week, then join the group chat on Friday to talk about it.
About the movie
Burning, a South Korean thriller directed by Lee Chang-dong, makes many a favorite film list for good reason. Lee Jong-su, adrift and lonely, reconnects with a childhood friend Shin Hae-mi, only to have their burgeoning romance derailed by the introduction of her new and mysterious lover, who confides that he has an unusual hobby.
Why Burning?
“There is poetry and mystery to Burning that allows our imagination to run free,” says Galerie curator Lukas Dhont. A riveting adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s short story “Barn Burning,” the sinuous thriller is meticulous in its tension. All month long Galerie is celebrating the convergence of literature and cinema.
